Hi there! I finally started this blog this morning. It's a sunny, cool day here in Charlotte, NC. I've been up since 6 AM and I'm about to grab another cup of coffee.
I'm Annie, and I'm an artist and a writer. Plus a mum of three kids, Michael (7), Christina (4) and Sarah (2). My older two are autistic and in special classes. Sarah is your "typical" toddler, full of energy and getting into mischief. So my days are hardly boring.
I started painting when I was 30, while I was home with my newborn son. Before then, I had a grand total of one formal art class, and that was Art I in 7th grade. I was going crazy being a stay-at-home mom and needed a distraction. That distraction was oils. Seven years later, I've switched to watercolors and acrylics, and also dabbled in sketching with charcoal and pastel.
I'd describe my style as "kinda modern". I love bright colors and bold shapes. My husband (who is a decidely left-brained computer engineer) considers it an interesting hobby, and is always ready with a criticism on technique. That was a big reason why I kept my art in the closet, so to speak, and it's only been a couple of years that I've shown any more my works to anyone.
I hope to meet new creative friends and bounce ideas off like-minded people. And somehow manage to stay sane with everything going on in my life...
