Is there a trick to photographing a 3D hexagonal shape? I find it very difficult to photograph my hexagonal étui boxes in a way that gives a proper idea of their shape and the fabric covering them. At the moment, to get a proper idea of the fabric, I tend to go in close up and lose the shape and, if I want to focus on the shape, I lose the fabric detail. What to do........?

To show the shape you would really have to take it from above. I'm not sure it would be possible to achieve both the detail in the fabric as well as the shape, unless the lid (or inside) was the same fabric.
