My more personal drawing is like that, it often starts with a single line and I can watch it grow, fascinating

Blu, the same happens to me. I start off with an idea but the end result is always different. I think this is why I always hate my work so much once I've done it. It's not until I've lived with it that I can start to look at it more objectively. It seems that I need to have time to forget the original idea I had in order to appreciate what I did actually produce. I get frustrated and feel like I've failed when I can't produce exactly what was in my head. Feels like a curse sometimes. Maybe I'm just weird.

Oh, definitely wierd Cathy- but then it's the only way to be in our opinion

I find I feel like that about the demons i draw- I can see them running about and doing stuff, but trying to capture that in a flat image is really difficult. The best I can do is spend a lot of time studying anatomy of various things so I can at least make them look more like a 'real' thing.

Does everyone else keep their old work? I find every so often theres a real improvement in my drawing, suddenly the older stuff looks clumsy, at which point I generally throw it out

Oh no! NEVER throw it out grinnie! It's a record of where you've come from. I think it's vital to keep it. I totally think my older art is rubbish but when I look at it occasionally, it motivates me because I can see the improvement.

As for seeing demons running about and doing stuff, well, I think you need to see someone about that! lol

Just for fun!
Even though sometimes an idea that takes up more time & space that you have for your Art, creating things is always fun.

I have to agree with Cathy on never throw out the old stuff. I'm still using bits of sketches from earlier sketch books. It's interesting to see what you can do with the drawings created before computer painting programs existed.

The thing that also happens to me is that ideas I thought were rubbish, suddenly can take on a new life. I can go back to old ideas and work them in a different way and end up with something good. So grinnie, don't throw anything out!
