Total Art Soul - for artists

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd try the feedback section. If you have any ideas, please comment on them, even if you think I need to start over...

It came from a very ugly painting that I wanted to paint over, so I created this line patten on top of it. I'm thinking of creating some strong diagonals in color and create another color in the pink area.

I like where you're going with this painting and I like geometry and symmetry. Personally, I like more simple things that are not busy and this feels too busy to me. This is a personal view and others may feel different. I would take out anything 'curvy' and stick to straight lines and I would also get rid of the pink and stick to blues with just accents of the yellow and orange that would act as 'anchors'. If you want to leave some pink, I think this could work if it was in equal amounts to the yellow and orange. I don't think the painting feels 'balanced' right now. My eye is constantly drawn to the pink area and I feel that this interferes with the movement of the piece.

Anyway, that's just me!

I love it. I wish you had said how large/small this piece is because I think that makes a difference in perception of colors and lines. I personally really like the pink color and think it pops as something unexpected. I just started doing some abstract pieces myself and even though some people who don't understand art claim that a 3 yr old could do what I'm doing, I know (by your questions) that you realize there is a lot of thought and planning that goes into a work such as this.

I say follow your gut. And if you feel the need to keep painting over, then do it until you are satisfied. When I'm at that point I usually put a painting aside and walk around it for about a week before I make final touches. The physical act of walking around my paintings helps my head get into them. Try it. And trust yourself.
