I think if I ended up in an old watch repair shop or similar that no one wanted, I would be in heaven Watches always fascinated me, not only for the sake of making other objects from them, but as the measure instruments they actually are as well.

There are pocket watches that not even I would break into and pick into pieces since they have historical value etc. It's darn difficult to know what they are worth and IF they are worth anything, but I had to learn how to find the numbers and letters inside and look it up in books. Otherwise I wouldn't have a clue what I'm taking apart

So in a way I can understand your ex-father-in-law, Cathy. Especially if the watches are still in working condition.
The only pocket watches that I dismantle are broken and rarely worth a dime.

Nah...I always check first, especially if I get my hands on a pocket watch that is old and still working. A missing key is the most common thing with old still working pocket watches, and you can buy new ones for them

Some of the piece I've used for my designs have been well over 150 years old, and I've got a special compartment in my storage for those bits. Even though the watch itself wasn't very valuable, it's a fun thing to include in a design Attracts buyers too

Wow! That's quite amazing. Nice idea to have a work of art with something so old on it. It really does have a story to tell then.

There's a girl on Etsy named Jennifer (her shop is WearableByDesign) who makes amazing steampunk style metal clay pieces. They blow my mind, because she puts a TON of work into making these things. She's really good, and I've got a long way to go before I'm anywhere near that good.
