Sewing and Quilting? 2 Years, 1 Month ago
I am curious to know if there is anyone else here that loves to sew and or quilt?
I have been sewing for about 15 years now and love it. Mostly self taught and read lots of books, same with quilting. I love to make bags and accessories and have really started playing with some fashion lately. My most recent outfit for me that I love to wearing! I have a flair for fun and whimsical.

I think most people here know that my for "day" job I am a self-employed couturier, working predominantly with brides on custom wedding gowns.
Sewing for myself is also a hobby and a treat, when I have the time. I've found it immensely satisfying and gratifying whenever I'm complimented on the clothes I wear. I have my own particular style and find the best way to express it is by designing and making my own clothes.
This skill comes in very handy too for home decor! I enjoy re-upholstering my Mid-Century-Modern finds and crafting pillows.

I think sewing is a vastly under-appreciated skill in the US and sadly this incredibly useful and versatile craft is not being passed down generations as it should. Any one who sews knows the feeling of delight and freedom, in being able to custom make anything for the home or themselves and others.

So Cynde in that regard I think we are kindred spirits!
Btw very cool outfit and in Springs strongest trend color too!

P.S. I also quilt, and you've reminded me I have many that I could finish and put in the Etsy shop. I think I will put a For Home section in there this week-end!

I agree Karin that sewing is under appreciated and not passed down like it used to be. I am actually 3rd generation seamstress
in my family, but I didn't really start until I got married. My 13yr old
daughter is making it a 4th I am proud to say. She
loves to draw out things she wants to make. She even
draws some of my applique patterns because I can't draw
well at all.
I to love the freedom of expressing my style by making
my clothes and accessories. I am still fine tuning my skills
in getting the exact fit, I bet I could learn a lot from you!!

Cynde, I started my career, and continue to be fascinated by pattern making, which I first explored at age 13 when I wanted to customize a commercial pattern.
I have also taught this exciting (to me at least) aspect of fashion design, and love to help anyone interested.
If there is anything you would like help with, don't hesitate to ask.
I am quite adept at explaining patterning procedures in writing and can de-mystify many things, and give good short cuts to better results.

From my 20+ years experience in custom work I have a fair amount of fitting expertise. I can give you some tips on giving your clothes a great fit which you could easily implement.

I love that skirt cynde. So cheery. I did quite a lot of sewing, I made my wedding dress and also a lot of clothing for my children. I really don't like it though. It seems the most frustrating thing in the world. I also made a lot of blinds and curtains. Nothing I made ever came out the way I intended, although OK, it was never exactly as intended! lol

Hi! Glad to meet some fellow sewers! I love to sew, mostly for myself and my kids, but I do custom orders too. I've just uploded a photo of a simple dress I made. I make my own pattern for all my clothing.
