I used proofread a modern art bibliography, and was often amazed at what could be described as art, as long as it was motivated (supposedly) by some artistic concept. This is one of the artworks I read about:

The artist took some earth excavated to lay the foundations of a new art museum in Barcelona, grew some onions in it, cooked a meal with the onions, and ate it. Sorry, I can't remember the concept behind the work.

That is really weird! Is that really considered art?!

I've heard of a very shocking one but it's too gruesome to post here. I'll get my thinking hat on for some more.

Yes, I can think of some gruesome ones as well. In fact I used to think it was only a matter of time before somebody got killed in some "artwork" (perhaps it has already happened).

In answer to the question, "is that really considered art?", I heard a conceptual artist being interviewed on the radio a while back, and he said that because he was an artist, anything he did could be considered art as long as it had a concept behind it. The interviewer said, "Does that mean if you pour a cup of tea, that could be art, whereas if I did it, it wouldn't be?" and he said "Yes".
