Right, now I have a few other things out of the way I will try again.
I wouldn't take negative comments too personally, I think the problem starts when you first start trying to sell online, you ask for advice, and people to tell you to get your name out there and be bold etc. I think then it is really easy to develop this habit where you are throwing links everywhere, trying to follow Twitter, trying to keep up with facebook, you can get a bit blinkered, and not realise you are doing it. Then most forums let you do this (as long as it isn't too obsessive), so when a forum comes along, and says no that isn't really what we do here, it can come as a bit of a shock. Really all you are doing is reminding folk why they wanted to create in the first place, because they enjoy it, I think sometimes it is easy to forget as we sit on our own every day, spending proportions of time in front of the computer, looking at stats, not making any sales, it can create a bit of a panic.
When I first began trying to sell I thought it would be an idea to try and infiltrate as many forums as possible, not spamming just being on there, I was wrong, I only stayed on the forums where I felt there was a sense of community, where I recognised regulars, and they could recognise me, and people had interesting things to say, and that is all you are trying to do
Besides I think it is safe to say you don't need to shout about your work, I had more visits to the UK site where I sell yesterday, than any other day, now I don't know how many of those were people and how many were bots, but the only thing I had done differently was literally join this site - so thank you, your community based site and forum clearly works
