I found a very useful website set up by an artist for this exact thing - its called paint my photo and is for painters and photographers to get together and share their work and encourage each other by having a monthly challenge where artists can interpret a particular photo of one of the photographers on the site. it's really good.

That's very useful, thanks efikim.

Pointypix, that sound like a great idea and we'll check that out. There are a lot of changed afoot with the site at the moment so the photo library has been put on hold just for now but not forgotten.

"fantastic...will be bookmarking this for sure..would love to see more people/portrait style! hint hint."

Glad you like it, FaerieMajikk! LOL, I know, I don't take many "people" pictures. It's tricky because I would have to get their permission to put their face in the Creative Commons, so my people pictures tend to be of the faraway and unrecognizable sort.

Mike, after reading your article I am considering putting my photos of my sculptures in the Creative Commons (attribution, no derivatives, non-commercial). After all, I want them to be shared; I just don't want people making derivatives (or a profit) from my work. I suppose this would accomplish that purpose. I'm trying to think of any reason why it might be a bad idea (since I couldn't retract the licensing if I change my mind later).

Pointypix, that sounds like a fun website. If I had more time I might join and share my photos!
