Total Art Soul - for artists

I have spent so much on different makes of paints, new brushes and various palette knives etc over the years that i thought it would be really useful to hear what other artist use and what they recommend.

This was brought home to me when I needed a really opaque acrylic white for a glass painting I was doing and the one I had bought (which was not cheap) was useless! Someone recommended GOLDEN acrylics on Twitter to me so I tried that and it was great!

If you have any products; brushes, oils paints, acrylics, pencils etc that you swear by, then share your knowledge please.........

Because I most use acrylics on top of my textured work, I use the cheapest I can find. Even though I have to seal the string or fabric, it still drinks a lot of the paint up, especially on string. Saying that, I hate the 'plastic' look I'm getting but I'm not sure if using a more expensive acrylic would help that. I must admit to never having any money to buy good quality materials.

For watercolour and gouache, I love Rosemary and Co sable brushes. They really are a lovely brush available online for the same price as you could buy a lesser quality in a shop.
I am building up my collection slowly and am really impressed with them (no connection btw), just a happy customer.

I personally love my sponges and acrylic paints. I have used oils and people have told me they are better, but the smell and the way they don't spread so easy is a turn off to me. Not only that... cleaning up is a nightmare. Acrylics wash right off and just seem to be an easier way for me. One day when I become =) an artist with money and have my own loft, I may break out the oils and make a big mess and have some fun. Rachel Heath.

I love the idea of having an artist's loft to make a mess in! I shall join you! I have always used acrylics and loved them but have started working in oils recently and find them very different. Took a while to get used to but I love the fact that you have to lay down the colour and then not fiddle with it!
