Wow, it is already visually fantastic and it certainly should be stunning when complete! What size is this?

Thanks deskenob but I am in search of realism within abstraction. Even I'm not sure what it means yet. I want to create optical illusions and make objects appear real by using materials that emulate their texture. It's much easier said than done. Painting on string is not the easiest thing. I often wonder why on earth I even started along this journey. Now I just obsess about it! lol

Cathy- interesting what you said: "I want to create optical illusions and make objects appear real by using materials that emulate their texture". It struck me because that is often the approach I take with my mosaics. Have you tried mosaic?
Dezkenob- wow again. I followed your links and your drawings are wonderful. Especially love 'End of an Era'- fantastic detail and light (no pun intended).

MosaicSmith, I've had a little dabble but it wasn't very successful. I also like to paint so I mainly look for materials I can paint afterwards.
Maybe I could do a painting that looks like a mosaic! lol

This rope drawing is going to be fantastic - I'm also admiring you for sharing the WIP, I don't normally like to do that unless I'm doing it for a client.
Cathy, your rope painting has achieved what you are trying to create in your work, so you really shouldn't compare it with this pencil work. It's of the same level of competence IMHO, anyway!

I love this Matt. I think it will have a real visual impact and be something one could look at for hours. Contrary to what I said in our recent 'conversation' I think this subject really works especially when carried out using your meticulous skill (even though I'd be tempted to make a few areas of the rope extra frayed, just to add my own touch to it)
