That's excellent! I will look up what that looks like because I have no clue. It is very difficult to teach yourself any instrument. I find that I lose motivation after a while. The most i learned and the most fun was when I played with others in a band or orchestra. What you play has more context then. I admire you for trying it and it will get you started. Maybe later you can get some lessons.

It´s a percussion instrument. Most often played to accompany sitar music. It is two drums bass and treble. I play along to CDs which are specially produced to provide an accompinant to tabla. My husband is musical and helps me a bit but he is Western trained and doesn´t fully understand Indian Classical . As for teachers there are only 2 that I know of in Sweden 100s of mile away from my home. I guess oneday I must travel abroad to attend some workshops´or a summer school. Thank you for your interest in my hobby.

I guess this is the problem with choosing a hobby that is not your average thing. Shame you would have to travel so far but a summer workshop sounds fantastic. It would be a wonderful way to have a holiday.

I also play with backing CD's. Because I play jazz, improvisation is a big part so having the backing tracks is invaluable for me. They're an excellent tool for self-teaching.

I started being taught the piano and only got as far as Grade One Theory. I played guitar at art college, mainly busking and chunking along to my so talented singer/guitarist pal Mark. Sadly Mark died two years ago, but I still have the guitar he helped me buy and only very recently I dusted it down and have started to teach myself to play again. I am looking forward to playing again and composing my own guitar pieces sometime. My partner is a composer and plays cello. So we may duet sometime. Watch this space.

I play the vocal chords. I'm one of the singers on the worship music team at my church. I used to play guitar too, but I haven't picked it up in years. Callouses on my fingers might be problematic when I'm sculpting.

I have played the guitar since i was 13 years old, and consider myself fairly proficient. My Father is an excellent pianist, who has concentrated on playing Rachmaninov over the years, but encouraged me to have piano lessons at 11 years old. I have since been teaching myself over the years, only hindered by the invention of the synthesiser & computers which allows you to play a performance & then edit your mistakes !! Very useful for writing purposes but i would rather spend time perfecting a performance. I would love to be able to play the saxaphone but have struggled to even get a note out of most wind instruments !! I hope in my later years to be able to afford the time to play more real piano as i find it such a beautiful & expressive instrument. But after watching Vladimir Ashkenazy play Rachmaninov's piano concertos & Jools Holland play boogie ... i can only aspire to such excellence !
