This being my very first blog post I guess I should try to make it something significant or interesting.  The problem is that I just can't think of anything interesting at the moment.  I'm so excited to actually find my blog that I can't think of anything else.  Maybe a bit more about me.

I was born and raised in Fresno, CA.  I moved to the Atlanta, GA area for my job ten years ago and recently retired from that job.  Now I can play all the time.  My problem is that I have four very clear areas of interest and they are all tugging at me.  I am a fiber artist turned beading artist, then onto polymer clay artist and finally lampwork artist.  Each area of interest lead to the next.  I call it my "fiber journey".  My website is called AFiberJourney, it started as an interest in all things fabric and color.

I wanted to add beads first to my fiber arts so I started playing with small beading.  This lead to the need for more interesting beads so I started playing with polymer clay and really fell in love with the tactile part of playing with clay and in all the wonderful colors that I could create with it.  After playing with the clay and creating beads I moved onto pendants and jewelry, which was fun but it wasn't what I had set out to do.

I fell in love with the look of lamp work beads and was trying to create them with polymer clay.  I was never really successful and eventually moved onto lamp work.  In learning the craft I was mesmerized by melting something solid into a fluid state where I could manipulate it into something completely different.   I've  gotten totally side tracked with the original purpose of all of this and haven't touched my fiber arts in over two years.  I know that I'll go back to it eventually, I go into the studio and stroke the fabric from time to time but so far nothing has caused me to start a fiber project.  In the mean time I'm really enjoying playing with the glass, there is something so seductive about it that when I can't be at the torch I am searching the web for photos of glass to quiet the call.

In my next entry I'll tell you the story of how I finally got into melting glass.  It's quite unusual and the journey was far from direct.  But for now I leave you with this.  May your journey take you where you want to go.  Just remember to stop and enjoy the view along the way.
